How to Throw a Great Post-Season Party

So, you've been tasked with the responsibility of throwing a memorable end-of-season bash, and you have no idea where to start. Don't let your hopes fall foul! Keep reading below for the four-step checklist of ideas that will have both your beloved team and fellow soccer parents cheering.

Score a Goal...with Your Food!

Food is a celebratory must! For the party-planner with minimal time on their hands, the go-to main entree may be to order wings and/or pizza. You could also consider booking your celebration in the event room of your local pizzeria. For those who are fine with cleaning up their own culinary messes, consider organizing a taco bar or throwing a BBQ-style bash by grilling out with hamburgers and hot-dogs. Get the team involved by inviting them to sit around a fire and toast their own s'mores! Other fun appetizers and snacks include potato salad, chips and dip, buffalo cauliflower "wings" (a tasty alternative to normal wings, particularly if there are any vegans/vegetarians on your team), pasta salad, guacamole, and — of course — soccer ball-shaped cupcakes or cookies!

World Cup-Worthy Decorations

These decorations are certain to bring home the trophy without busting the bank. Search online or visit your local party store for soccer ball helium balloons. If you can't find soccer ball balloons, simple black and white balloons will do! Green, black, white, and gold flags or paper streamers can be draped from walls or the ceiling to truly begin to bring the look together. If you have any rectangular dining tables, cover them with green table cloths and then use white fabric or acrylic paint to stencil on field boundaries; the result is a miniature soccer field for which to serve your food!

Walk (Don't Run) Down Memory Lane

No post-season party would be complete without a little bit of nostalgia. At least a week before the celebration, encourage each parent to send you their favorite pictures and videos from the season. Next, create a highlight reel! Regardless of whether your team won or lost, you can celebrate the team's achievements by compiling pictures and video footage of highlights from the season. If the weather permits, hold the party outdoors where the kids can play their favorite sport and watch their best moments on an outdoor movie screen. Compiling the most memorable moments into a video (most computers come with a simple video editing software already installed) to showcase towards the end of your celebration is a sure-fire way to inspire a fond sense of team companionship. And really, isn't that what you're celebrating most?

Let the Games Begin (Again)

Just because the season is over doesn't mean the games have to be. If your players are young enough, some friendly competition may just be in order to curb mid-party restlessness. Stay on theme by playing a round of "pin the soccer ball on the goal", or by taking up another classic such as a three-legged race. Older players may become surprisingly passionate over a game of sports trivia. Award winners with something like candy, or World Cup merchandise.
